Sampradaya Workshop at Scona Dance Co.

We were very excited to welcome two incredible dancers to Scona Dance Co. who were a part of Sampradaya Dance Creations. Before they attended the show, students in our Dance 25/35 learned a traditional form of East Indian dance called Kathak. It was challenging but a lot of fun too!

African Workshop

Scona Dance Co. had the privilege of working with Masani St. Rose who taught all of our classes traditional West African dances. Some classes did hunting or initiation dances, while others celebrated life through dance. African dance is always a challenge, but a great one, experiencing polyrhythms and a deep use of plie. Taking time to study African dance allows us to appreciate the origins of jazz 🙂

Never stop moving

Scona Dance Co. 2013-2014 Off to a Great Start

What an incredible start to the year! Already we have had three guest artists (!!!) and by tomorrow, all classes will be finished their first piece for this year’s Pathways!

Our first guest artist was the very talented James Gnam, who was performing with the Brian Webb Dance Company as a soloist. Scona Dance Co. had a great contemporary ballet class with James who reinforced that if you take time building the basics, the rest will come. Every tendu counts!!SconaDanceJames
